Electronic Devices for Kindergarten and Grade 1 – 4.01
The board continued discussions regarding the potential student device refresh for kindergarten and first grade. The board is planning to take action on the proposed refresh at one of the two board meetings in June.

Staff Computer Refresh – 4.02
The board discussed the planned staff computer refresh to take place over the summer. The board is planning to take action on the proposed refresh at one of the two board meetings in June.

Approval of NSSEO Budget Adoption: 2018-19 School Year 2018-19 NSSEO Budget – 6.01
The board approved participation in the programs and activities of the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) during the fiscal year 2018-19, approved of the FY 2018-19 budget for this organization as presented by the NSSEO Governing Board, and agreed to pay the District’s pro-rata share of the organization’s budgeted revenues, which is $4,290,211.

Approval of Contracts for $1,000 in Revenue (School Portraits) – 6.02
The board approved the contractual agreements with Lifetouch National School Studios, Inc. for Grove Junior High and Holmes Junior High, and with Stuart-Rodgers, Ltd. for Friendship Junior High for student photography services.

Renewal of Medicaid Claiming Agent – 6.03
The board approved a 3-year contract renewal for Fee for Services Medicaid billing services for a term of July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2021 to Hawthorn Associates. Hawthorn agreed to maintain their current rate of 6% for the term of the contract and donate $3,000 back to the District for the first two years of the contract to assist in covering the costs for technology associated with the claiming process.

Setting Student Meal Fees For The 2018-19 School Year – 6.04
The board approved the student per meal fees for the 2018-19 school year as follows:

  • Full price lunch: $2.85;
  • Full price breakfast: $1.30;
  • Reduced price lunch (currently $0.40): in accordance with federal guidelines;
  • Reduced price breakfast (currently $0.30): in accordance with federal guidelines;
  • Carton of milk price: $0.50

Approval of Food Service Contract Renewal For 2018-19 Lunch and Breakfast Programs – 6.05
The board approved the renewal of the contract with Organic Life, the district’s current food service management company, to provide meals for the 2018-19 school year at the following rates:

  • Reimbursable Lunches $2.8668
  • Management Fee per Lunch $0.0000
  • A la Carte Equivalent Fee $2.8668
  • A la Carte Management Fee $0.0000
  • Reimbursable Breakfast $1.2509
  • Management Fee per Breakfast $0.0000

School year 2018-19 represents the second renewal with Organic Life. State law allows the district to renew a contract four times before a district is required to bid the service.

Approval of Sealcoating Contract – 6.06
The board approved the contract award for sealcoating and restriping to Patriot Maintenance, Inc. in the amount of $25,386. Patriot submitted the lowest bid for completing the project according to the required specifications and schedule and has done previous and satisfactory work for CCSD59.

Approval of Grade Two Student Device Refresh – 6.07
After gathering feedback from second grade teachers, evaluating student device usage, and updating the CCSD59 long term technology plan, the district recommended each student in second grade receive access to an updated Chromebook in the fall of 2018.

The board authorized the implementation of a plan to provide a Chromebook for all students in second grade. The cost for the Chromebook is $314.91 and the Google license is $24.93.

Approval for Audio Recording of Board of Education Meetings – 6.08
The board approved the audio recording of future board of education meetings, and the recorded audio files are directed to be posted, along with a text-based transcript of the audio file, on the district’s website.

This process will begin after transitioning to the new administration building in the fall of 2018 in order to utilize audio equipment which has the capability of producing the necessary audio quality.

Approval of 2018-19 Administrative Compensation – 6.09
The board authorized a pool of 2.1% for salary increases for administrative employees when comparing similar assignments to the prior fiscal year. Excluded from the pool are administrators recently hired, retiring, or accessing the retirement benefit.

Approval of 2018-19 Non-Negotiated Compensation – 6.10
The board set a compensation pool of 2.1% for non-negotiated personnel. Excluded from the pool are non-negotiated employees recently hired, retiring or accessing the retirement benefit.

Approval of Ecolab Grant for Brentwood Elementary School – 6.11
The board approved the solicitation of a $2,000 grant from Ecolab by Brentwood Elementary School. Once received, these funds will be used to support the Brentwood Spanish library collection.

Approval of Target Grant for Grove Junior High – 6.12
The board approved a $1,000 grant from Target to Grove Junior High to be used to support the soccer program by purchasing soccer balls and rebounders. Both of these pieces of equipment will benefit students as they practice their soccer skills.

Approval of Fuel Up to Play 60 Grant for Grove Junior High – 6.13
The board approved a $4,000 Fuel Up to Play 60 grant to Grove Junior High, which will be used to promote healthy eating and will also aid in hosting Family Fitness Fun Nights to support physical fitness activities at both home and school.

Approval of Target Grant for Salt Creek Elementary School – 6.14
The board approved a $1,000 grant by Target to Salt Creek Elementary School to be used to support the soccer program. Funds will be used to supply equipment for an after-school soccer program, including permanent goals, soccer balls, cones, agility equipment, and a coach’s practice pack.
