CCSD59 School Closing Update

English|Español|Polski

This afternoon, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a “stay-at-home” order for the entire state that will go into effect beginning Saturday, March 21, 2020. The Governor also extended school closures through April 7. In light of this announcement, CCSD59 will continue to provide ongoing support to our school community including food delivery and continuity of instruction. We encourage all families to check the district COVID-19 landing page at ccsd59.org/covid19 for the latest updates, procedures, and resources during the school closure.

Throughout the school closure, essential functions are still available through the district. As we have previously shared, CCSD59 has prioritized addressing some of the additional challenges/stresses for our families due to the nature of the closure. We would like to update you on further opportunities to pick up meals and continue your student’s learning through E-learning opportunities.

Food and Nutrition

The following meal options will be available each week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Like this past week, these options are available for all children in your family.

Please note: each option will allow you to pick up breakfast and lunch for two days at a time. For example, one visit on Monday, March 23 will allow you to pick up breakfast and lunch for that day and also Tuesday, March 24, to last until meals will be served again on Wednesday.

Option 1: For ALL Students, ALL Schools
You may pick up breakfast and lunch from one of the following pick up locations between 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Please knock on the designated door and indicate to staff how many students in your family need breakfasts and lunches. Staff will process your request and provide you with a sack with your requested meals.

  • Byrd: Door 4
  • Devonshire: Door 12
  • Frost: Door 11
  • Jay: Door 21
  • Low: Door 15
  • Rupley: Door 6
  • Friendship: Door 10
  • Grove: Door 12
  • Holmes: Door 3

Option 2: For students residing in the Blackhawk, Oasis, Willoway and Busse Road Pharaohs/ Forest Cove / Crystal Towers / Victoria Hills areas only
If you reside in the Blackhawk, Oasis, Willoway or Busse Road Pharaohs/Forest Cove/Crystal Towers/Victoria Hills areas, a bus will be at the following locations from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. to distribute breakfasts and lunches:

  • Blackhawk
    • 400 Touhy – at the laundromat/store
    • 500 Touhy – at the front office
  • Oasis
    • at the directory and store
  • Willoway
    • at the white garages
  • Busse Rd Pharaohs, Forest Cove, Crystal Towers, Victoria Hills
    • at Victoria & Morris Hill

Option 3: This option is ONLY for special education bus routes.
If your child rides a special education bus, you may meet the bus at the usual stop at exactly three hours later than your typical pickup time to get lunch and breakfast for the next two days. For example, if your pickup is at 7:40 a.m., your food pickup will be at 10:40 a.m. Busses will run consistent routes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Please be on the lookout for the bus to arrive and pick up the food at the bus.

E-Learning

CCSD59 will provide ongoing support for student learning through E-learning opportunities. When E-learning was launched on March 17, 2020, teachers used this Google Site to help K-5 students get started while elementary teachers planned for E-learning activities. We will continue to add new resources and activities to this site for families that are interested in additional learning opportunities beyond what the teacher shares as part of E-Learning.

Anticipated E-Learning Schedule

  • March 17 – 20:  E-Learning
  • March 23 – 27: Spring Break (No E-Learning)
  • March 30 – April 3: E-Learning
  • E-Learning plans for beyond April 3 will be announced
    • April 6: Ridge E-Learning Begins

Please note that with spring break occurring the week of March 23, teachers likely sent some ideas for student learning to families today, Friday, March 20, and will not be sending daily E-learning activities next week. Families who would like to maintain the E-learning routine over break can use the additional resources on the Google Site referenced above.

In addition, over spring break, we invite you to participate in several other campaigns.

  • Spring Break Selfies: Let’s celebrate reading across our district! We are inviting students, families, and staff to post a selfie of reading activities over spring break. Participants can post to social media using the hashtag #D59Reads or email the photo to newsletter@ccsd59.org. We hope to capture and celebrate students, staff, and their families enjoying reading together.
  • Virtual Trips: We’ve also compiled some virtual journey opportunities. Since this is not a time for most families to travel or for visiting public places, enjoy some virtual field trips during spring break!

As a reminder, Comcast, Spectrum, and AT&T are currently offering free or reduced price options to provide home Internet for students during this closure. Details of these packages can be found here.
